A mat can do a lot for your framing project with the right matting combination.  Matting serves two key functions by protecting and displaying the artwork.  It creates a stable controlled environment by preventing the artwork from touching the glass in the frame and allows for air circulation around your art.  Without this spacing, damage could occur to the artwork.  Matting also creates separation between the artwork and the frame to creatively showcase the final look of your art.
